Baby Beginnings

Parenting ... the Nurturing Way 

Baby Beginnings is a program of newborns through age three utilizing the Nurturing Parenting curriculum focused on making parenting a positive experience. The program has three components: a Room Visit, a Newborn Class, and Community Parenting class; and targets three areas: parenting skills, health and wellness, and literacy/language development.   

The Room Visit - provided in Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, NY


Parents are visited in their hospital room within 48 hours of the birth of their child to help orient them in their new roles. They are informed about community resources, provided information on safe sleep and on car seat safety.

The Newborn Class - provided in Crouse Hospital

This one-hour class occurs on the maternity floor and is offered daily, Monday through Friday. It includes topics such as: 

  • What to expect in the first few weeks
  • All about crying
  • Recognizing postpartum depression
  • Shaken baby syndrome
  • Beginning literacy

The Baby Beginnings II Online Class

Parents are invited to take the Baby Beginnings online training class about parenting infants and toddlers (birth to age three) with a one-on-one discussion to follow. Parenting class topics include:

  • Parenting and learning styles
  • Positive discipline
  • Communication tools
  • Building self-esteem
  • Promoting literacy


Cost of the Baby Beginnings II class is $20.
