For Parents

Read N Rise

Ensuring children have the fundamental skills necessary for learning to read.

Read N Rise is a workshop designed to help parents ensure that their children are equipped with the fundamental skills necessary for learning to read.  The goal is to screen children for pre-reading skills and provide skill-strengthening activities to ensure their reading success.  A research based screening tools gauges a child's grasp of pre-reading skills, and where a child is on the path to begin to learn to read.  The program helps children master skills in three core areas of literacy: Print Knowledge, Emergent Writing, and Linguistic Awareness.

Each week both parent and children, ages 3-5, attend a 90-minute workshop session covering topics such as:

  • Parenting learning styles
  • Read together, talk together
  • Learning through play
  • Reading with your child
  • Back to School: Helping your child succeed
